An American from New York, Djassi represents the perfect fusion between the organic and the ethereal, earth and sky. “Transcultural” in her movement, Djassi da Costa Johnson, through her dance becomes a. bridge between different cultures. She adds in ingredients of various techniques to make a mix that is both extraordinary and natural, between Alvin Ailey and the Joffery Ballet, between Pina Bausch and Butoh, with flourishes of acrobatics, capoeira, the energy of 80's New York break dance, tap, jazz, Africa, and a lot of soul. In her solos, Djassi da Costa Johnson doesn't just try to daze and impress the audience physically, but she also connects herself to the universal life that lives in each one of us, provoking emotions from the audience.
With a degree in Anthropology from New York's Columbia University, she studied dance at Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and at the Harlem School of the Arts. She began dancing for Momix in 1999 and interpreted, as prima ballerina, “Passion”, “Skiva”, “Tuu”, touring in over 25 countries. She has also toured Italy with Daniel Exralow.
